Many leadership positions in several South African criminal justice institutions are or will become vacant in the coming months. These positions must be filled by capable, credible, trustworthy and accountable leaders who can build strong rule of law capacity now and into the future.

What practical steps can help criminal justice agencies tackle violent organised crime and corruption and ensure that South Africans feel safe? This seminar will explore the possibilities and how to achieve them.

Moderator: Cheryl Frank, Project Manager, Justice and Violence Prevention, Institute for Security Studies

Panelists:

  • Lt Gen (Ret) (Adv/Dr) S Godfrey Lebeya, former head, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks)
  • Lawson Naidoo, Executive Secretary, Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution
  • Assistant Detective Chief Constable (Ret) Bernhard Egger, formerly with the Bavarian State Office of Crime Investigation, Germany
