How we work

The Institute for Security Studies is a leading African organisation that enhances human security to enable sustainable development and economic prosperity in Africa. We work across the continent, doing authoritative research, providing expert policy advice and delivering practical training and technical assistance.

The Crime Hub is a regularly updated, user-friendly, web-based source for credible information and analysis on crime, violence and the functioning of the criminal justice system in South Africa. With funding from Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Hub was launched at the 1st International Conference on Crime and Criminal Justice held in December 2010.

The detailed interactive maps of the ISS Crime Hub bring crime and violence statistics directly to the public in a user-friendly format. Fact sheets and analytical tools enable government, civil society and the media to better understand violence and crime in South Africa with the intention of building a safer society.

Who we work with

Information sharing and collaboration are essential to achieve a safer and more just society. We work with a range of role-players including government departments, civil society organisations, academic institutions, community-based organisations and the media.
